February 2nd—February 4th (2018)

Date details +
  • $150.00 Patron Level
  • $120.00 Supporting Level
Room: Shrine Room
Ideal for both new meditators and those looking to deepen an existing practice, this weekend retreat focuses on mindfulness-awareness meditation and the vision that every human being has a fundamental nature of basic goodness - that our natural state is calm, wise, strong, and kind.

Shambhala Training is a path to develop the dignity of being human.  By practicing meditation, we cultivate fearlessness, confidence, openness, and gentleness toward ourselves and our world. This vision is basic human wisdom that doesn't belong to any one culture or religious tradition - though it can be found in many of them throughout history. Anyone can discover the goodness of human life and radiate that goodness into the world for the peace and sanity of others.

During this weekend, there will be meditation instruction in the Shambhala style of mindfulness-awareness meditation, as well as opportunities to practice meditation and discuss your practice and experiences individually with teachers. There will also be several talks by the program director, group discussions, and a concluding reception.
In this program, the ancient wisdom of Shambhala comes alive in our ordinary experience.  You will begin to see how meditation can impact our daily lives, and from there, how the sanity of meditation can expand to impact our community and our whole society.
The Art of Being Human is the first weekend in the Way of Shambhala series. This weekend corresponds with the Meditation in Everyday Life and Contentment in Everyday Life courses. This program is open to everyone - no experience or prior meditation practice necessary. Although it is the first in a series, this weekend retreat stands alone and you do not need to commit to any other courses or retreats in order to attend.
The program schedule is Friday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm.

We will provide refreshments, so if you have any dietary needs or restrictions, please let us know in the comments section when registering for this course.

Generosity Policy: Shambhala always has a generosity policy for its classes. Please pay at the level you can. No one will ever be turned away for financial reasons. Those who are able to pay at the "patron" level generously support those who cannot pay the full tuition. If the price points on this registration page are too high for you, please contact us to work out alternatives.

The Way of Shambhala series provides a strong foundation in mindfulness-awareness meditation and is composed of Shambhala Training Levels I-V, plus an accompanying series of five-week 'In Everyday Life' courses. The curriculum is designed to be applicable to the complexity of our daily lives. With gentleness and precision we can develop courage and sanity in these troubled times of uncertainty.
